Many kinds of fluids with different physical properties are appearing in the people’s daily life and the practical engineering. This project makes the Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids as the working fluids, and studies their performances of fluid flow and the mass transfer in the periodic tubes. Based on the research results, the mechanism of flow instability and the mass transfer characteristics as well as the mass transfer enhancement for pulsatile flow will be brought out. These results will provide an important reference for the development and design of the effective reactors and heat exchangers. The project mainly focuses the studies on: (1) Design the experimental system for the steady and pulsatile flow; (2) Carry out the measurements of rheological behavior for non-Newtonian fluid; (3) Study the flow instability for the Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid; (4) Carry out the experiments of fluid flow and mass transfer characteristics and find the relationship between the flow instability and the mass transfer enhancement; (5) Describe the mechanism of mass transfer enhancement for pulsatile flow.
